Both Volkswagen and BMW have recently issued voluntary vehicle recalls due to potential safety issues, reports the Los Angeles Times. Combined, the recalls affect more than 100,000 vehicles.

BMW has recalled more than 76,000 sedans and SUVs, all of them 3-series and 5-series models from 2006 and 2007, due to a problem with a defective passenger-side mat that could compromise the vehicle’s airbag deployment system. The German car manufacturer will replace the faulty part free of charge at dealerships, and will begin contacting owners of affected vehicles in January.

Meanwhile, Volkswagen has recalled more than 62,000 of their 2009-2011 Tiguan compact crossover SUVs because the housing for a fuse for the vehicle’s exterior lights could melt, causing the lights to stop working. Additionally, nearly 4,000 Jetta Hybrid sedans from 2013 and 2014 have been recalled due to corrosive transmission fluid, which could lead to sudden transmission failure. Volkswagen is also offering free repairs for all affected vehicles, and will begin notifying owners shortly.

No injuries have been reported in connection with any of the recalls.
