Electronic Cigarette (e-Cig)
Defective Electronic Cigarette (e-Cig) Attorney
An e-cigarette is essentially a cartridge filled with a nicotine solution and a small battery powering a coil that heats the solution into vapor. E-cigarettes, also known as E-Vapors are battery operated devices that resemble traditional cigarettes, but instead of tobacco leaves, a highly potent liquid nicotine is burned, turning the chemicals in the cartridge into a steam or a vapor that is inhaled by the smoker. The liquid used in the e-cigarette cartridges is created by extracting the nicotine from tobacco and mixing it with a propylene glycol base, and may contain flavorings, colorings, and other chemicals.
The Dangers of E-cigs
E-cigarettes have been touted by the tobacco industry as a “safer,” “non-addictive” alternative to traditional cigarettes, but in recent years, this has proven to not be true.
There are nearly 500 brands and 7,700 flavors on the market, all without FDA approval.
Because they have only been available in the United States since 2006, there has been no regulation by the Federal government, and limited research on health risks, with no way to determine what type of ingredients or carcinogen levels are in the liquids.
The Risk of Exploding Batteries
Measures to regulate E-cigarettes will not go into effect until August 2016, which still exposes millions of unknowing people to the harmful side effects of nicotine and exploding lithium ion batteries.
An Unknown Health Risk
Lack of regulation means that this product is widely available to children under the age of 18, and although there have been many debates among health experts as to whether or not E-cigarettes are worse than traditional cigarettes, one fact remains the same: The nicotine found in the e-cigarette cartridges is just as potent and harmful as the nicotine found in tobacco leaves.
