Multiple female patients have reported that a registered nurse sexually molested them while receiving care and treatment at Providence Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, California. On June 30, 2021, local authorities arrested Paul Alden Miller for sexual battery and sexual elder abuse involving three separate patients while at the hospital. Mission Hospital employed Miller as a nurse for over four years from 2017 to 2021.
Attorney Jeffrey Milman, managing partner at Hodes Milman Ikuta, LLP, explained, “In cases like this, the responsibility often lies not only with the offending nurse, but with the hospital’s improper hiring and retention practices despite warning signs.”
Hodes Milman Ikuta, LLP law firm is actively investigating these sexual battery and abuse allegations against Miller. A full investigation is required in order to properly determine which parties may be held liable, as well as the appropriate legal response and consequences. The attorneys at Hodes Milman Ikuta have decades of experience representing victims of medical sexual abuse, including securing a $851.6 million settlement in the George Tyndall USC sex assault cases.
Providence Mission Hospital took prompt action and placed Miller on administrative leave pending a full investigation. The hospital has stated that it is in full cooperation with authorities and has “zero tolerance” for behavior that does not align with its mission and values.
Investigators are now asking the public for information on any potential additional victims of Nurse Miller, who was also employed at Sharp Hospital in Chula Vista from December 2014 to May 2015. It is has not been determined whether any sexual assault incidents occurred during his stay at Sharp Hospital.
