12 cases settled against the Regents of the University of California in the worst fertility scandal in the nation
Los Angeles – Daniel Hodes of Hodes Milman Liebeck, along with Steven Heimberg of Heimberg Law Group, and Mark Bush of Legion Counsel, recently settled 12 UCI Fertility cases for 4.23 million. The dozen lawsuits stem back to 1986 when two doctors from the UCI Center for Reproductive Health had stolen embryos and illegally gave them to other women without their consent.
The lawsuits and investigations ignited national news coverage to become one of the worst fertility scandals in the nation. Mr. Milman, Mr. Heimburg and Mr. Bush, recently settled 12 of these cases on behalf of individuals affected by the scandal for between $45,000 in the low end to $675,000 at the high end.
“This type of medical misconduct is unacceptable,” said Dan Hodes partner at Hodes Milman. “Although settling these cases gives our clients peace of mind, the damage is done.”
