As temperatures rise and pools look ever more alluring, it’s important to keep in mind that swimming entails risks and you need to exercise caution.
This should serve as a reminder: The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recently recalled 21,000 Banzai-brand water slides. The inflatable, in-ground pool slides, the agency said, can deflate and let users hit the ground beneath the slide, have the potential to easily fall over and do not come with sufficient warnings and instructions.
The slide, which was manufactured in China and sold by Wal-Mart and Toys R Us, has caused three injuries the CPSC is aware of. In one, a 29-year-old mother was killed when the slide she was descending deflated partially, allowing her head to strike the concrete edge of the pool and causing her to break her neck. In the other incidents, a Pennsylvania woman fractured her neck and a 24-year-old man was made a quadriplegic.
