The parents of a 15-year-old California teenager, who was raped by three 16-year-old classmates while unconscious due to drinking at a party, are planning to file a wrongful death suit against the parents who owned the home where the party took place. Although the defendants were out of town at the time, the teens had access to their liquor cabinet.

Audrie Pott, who committed suicide in September, was unaware that she had been sexually assaulted until she woke up the next morning with “drawings on her body…in some private areas,” according to a Pott family attorney. The assailants, who had photographed the attack, later posted pictures to social media websites and shared them at school. After learning that other classmates had seen the photos, Audrie wrote on her Facebook profile that her life was “ruined” and committed suicide seven days after the attack.

Pott’s case has drawn comparisons to the Steubenville rape case, in which two 17-year-olds in Ohio were found guilty earlier this year of raping a 16-year-old while she was unconscious from drinking and posting pictures and videos of the assault on social media websites.
