A married couple vacationing in Hawaii were involved in a head-on collision on a highway. The husband, a 47-year-old tattoo artist, suffered a femur fracture, as well as serious soft-tissue damage to his knee and shoulder. On learning that he was experiencing a loss of short-term memory, his attorneys at Hodes Milman became concerned that he had suffered a brain injury which had gone unrecognized during his hospitalization in Hawaii. We arranged for him to be evaluated by a team of neurology, neuropsychology, and neuroradiology experts, and it was discovered that he had indeed suffered a mild traumatic brain injury. His wife, a court clerk, also suffered serious physical injuries, including fractures to three cervical vertebrae, a fractured foot, and a derangement of a previously successful lumbar spine surgery. More serious was the development of post-traumatic stress disorder, which caused her to suffer depression, anxiety and personality changes. Kevin Liebeck, of Hodes Milman , together with his co-counsel in Hawaii, represented the plaintiffs resulting in a settlement of $1,375,000, which will allow both parties to get the treatment they need to return to a more normal life.
