Anybody who has wrestled with a stroller and lost knows that folding and unfolding the things can be frustrating. But if strollers are sometimes hard to use, they should at least be safe—and not only for their child passengers.

Baby gear maker phil&teds, along with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, recalled nearly 30,000 of its jogging strollers earlier this month because folding or unfolding them can result in serious finger injuries. The company had received two reports of lacerations and, gruesomely, one of a finger tip amputation. Owners of the recalled stroller are being advised to stop using it immediately and contact phil&teds’ American division to arrange for shipping of a free hinge-cover kit and repair instructions.
