Gerber Products Company is voluntarily recalling two organic baby foods, Pears, Carrots & Peas, and Carrots, Apples & Mangoes, because of a packaging defect that may make them susceptible to spoiling. “We are proactively working to retrieve all remaining pouches of the affected bhttps://verdictvictory.com/product-liability/defective-products/atches that fail to meet our quality standards,” Gerber President and Chief Executive, Gary Tickle, said in a statement. Only a handful of consumer reports have been released complaining of temporary gastrointestinal symptoms, but none of these cases have been confirmed to be related to the product. The recalled pouches of Pears, Carrots & Peas have best-by dates of July 12, 2016, with batch number 51945335XX, and July 13, 2016, with batch number 51955335XX. Gerber has recently faced lawsuits over their Good Start Formula, and Gerber Graduate Puffs, alleging misleading marketing tactics and lying about ingredients. One of the lawsuits claims that Gerber Peach Puffs actually contained less than two percent peach juice concentrate, and used images of bananas and sweet potatoes, but only contained apple puree. As a result of the Good Start Formula lawsuit, the company faced regulatory action from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
A letter from the FDA accused Gerber of misbranding its baby formula, by making an invalid health claim despite not being given permission to do so, based on lack of scientific evidence. They released a marketing campaign describing their baby formula as having the ability to reduce the risk of atopic dermatitis throughout the first year of an infant’s life, which led parents to choose Gerber brand baby formula over other brands.
