Before joining Hodes Milman , Carlos spent eight years at an AmLaw 100 law firm, defending major U.S. companies facing complex litigation arising in Latin America. Carlos was a member of the trial team that successfully defended the world’s largest producer of fruit and vegetables in a five-month trial relating to of alleged exposure to the pesticide DBCP in Latin America.  Carlos also defended one of the world’s largest oil companies against claims of causing environmental damage in the Amazon.  The South American trial lasted from 2003-2011 with years of U.S. enforcement actions.

For the past six years, Carlos has worked at a nationally-recognized Newport Beach plaintiffs’ law firm, handling complex civil litigation, including class actions, mass torts, personal injury, and professional liability claims.  Carlos represented medical facilities in a fraud class action regarding medical gowns that resulted in a $454M jury verdict; represented immigrant families challenging the Trump Administration’s border separation policy; worked on various class actions instituted by football fans denied seating at games; and obtained discovery from a leading U.S. internet provider in support of a criminal appeal pending in the U.K. using 28 USC §1782.

At Hodes Milman , Carlos serves as liaison counsel for a mass tort action against dental clinic that caused hundreds of children life-threatening infections.  Litigation is ongoing.

Education and Background

Carlos received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law. In addition to working through law school, Carlos also published legal scholarship and worked in the USC Law School Immigration Clinic, representing clients applying for asylum due to fear of political persecution in their home country, or under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). He also was a judicial extern in the chambers of the Hon. Margaret Morrow, United States District Court, Central District of California.

Carlos was born in El Salvador, and he migrated to the United States when he was ten years old.  He was raised in New York City.

Carlos is fluent in English and Spanish and has a basic understanding of Italian.
