Nearly 5,000 pounds of cold smoked salmon were recalled by Washington-based Salmolux due to the potential risk of contamination with the pathogen known as Listeria monocytogenes.

FoodQualityNews.com reports that products affected by the recall were sold in 10 different states in the U.S., including California, and all are packed in vacuum bags marked with designated lot number 10803. Recalled products include Jensen’s Old Fashion Smokehouse 4oz Sockeye Nova Lox, Raley’s brand 4oz Atlantic Lox, 500g Cold Smoked Sockeye Salmon Tray for foodservice customers, and several different varieties of lox sold under the Sea Passion brand name.

While no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall, the FDA warns that Listeria “can cause serious and sometimes fatal infection in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” in addition to causing miscarriages or stillbirths in pregnant women.
