Hormone treatments are commonly used for postmenopausal women, but a study at the California Teachers Study shows even more evidence that this therapy increases the risk of breast cancer.
The study analyzing more than 3,000 women, found that the women who had undergone therapy for more than 15 years had a nearly 20 percent increased chance of breast cancer. Also, women who received a combined treatment of estrogen and progestin for more than 15 years had more than an 80 percent increased chance of breast cancer. These results show that doctors need to inform their patients about the negative effects and risks associated with hormone treatments.
