More than 554,000 LED light bulbs manufactured by the Florida-based company Lighting Science Group have been voluntarily recalled due to the fact that they pose a potential fire hazard.
Lighting Science Group, which makes Home Depot’s EcoSmart LED bulbs as well as branded products for other companies, found that the bulbs’ internal components can overheat. The recall was issued after 68 reported product failures, some of which resulted in “visible smoke or fire conditions” or damage to a light fixture, wall socket or nearby object. There have been no injuries related to the recalled bulbs thus far.
The recall affects light bulbs sold under the brand names Sylvania, Definity, EcoSmart and Westinghouse.
