Concerned parents have been taking to social media to spread a warning about sharp glass fragments they’ve found in Huggies baby wipes. It started with a California parent, Melissa Estrella, who posted a video after finding these glass shards in several packages of the baby wipes. Since its posting, the video has received more than 6.5 million views, thousands of comments from other concerned parents and nationwide media attention.

“If you can see all of this stuff shining on the wipes, that is all glass. All we have to do is wipe and glass comes right off…I’m just so heartbroken that I didn’t notice it sooner,” Estrella stated in the video. Despite many parents reporting rashes appearing on their children after using the wipes, Huggies said the shards are not harmful, and that they aren’t glass at all, just hardened fibers. Huggies has updated its Frequently Asked Questions page and promised that it is working closely with the parent who identified the issue. They have also released this statement via social media:

“Huggies Parents, Thank you for your continued patience. We have received results from independent testing of the first samples and can confirm there is no glass or fiberglass in the wipes. For more information, please visit https://www.huggies.com/en-us/wipes-faq. Thank you all for your continued patience as we work to respond to everyone expressing their concerns and asking questions. Some of you have commented about the shiny particles seen in our wipes. While this condition is not normal, it does happen infrequently during the manufacturing process. When combined, the fibers in our wipes have on occasion created shiny particles, similar to what was found by this parent.

Huggies Wipes have a long history of safe use and we have stringent quality controls in place, and no glass is used during the manufacture of our wipes. As parents ourselves, we know you may have additional questions or concerns, which is why we have created a FAQs page: https://www.huggies.com/en-us/wipes-faq. Please don’t hesitate to contact our Consumer Care team directly at https://www.huggies.com/en-US/contact-usor by phone at 1-888-485-6839 FREE.”
