As published in the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association’s The Gavel, Partner Dan Hodes was selected as a Top Gun Trial Lawyer of the Year for his work in medical malpractice, representing victims and families of medical, hospital and Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) negligence cases. Hodes has obtained more than 50 jury verdicts and arbitrations negotiated settlements in excess of $1 million dollars and recovered more than $125 million dollars on behalf of clients.
In one significant case this year, Hodes obtained a $1.1 M binding arbitration award against a major health care organization on behalf of a 52-year-old man whose condition was never properly diagnosed or treated, resulting in a fatal heart attack.
In another case, Hodes obtained a $770,057 binding arbitration award on behalf of a client who underwent a spinal surgery. Although the surgery is very common, two surgeons damaged the plaintiff’s spinal nerves and caused permanent injury to the plaintiff’s sacral nerves, which control bowel, bladder, and sexual function.
